The Highway 97 corridor: Kelowna & Penticton to Osoyoos

Highway 97 south from the central Okanagan to Osoyoos is less a drive than a tasting menu: lake views, wine benches, and orchard towns in a steady scroll. Kelowna sits about 1 hour 45 minutes north; Penticton, under an hour.

From Penticton (60 minutes)

The highlights come fast: Skaha Lake's beaches, Okanagan Falls and its ice cream pilgrimage site, Vaseux Lake's bird sanctuary and bighorn sheep cliffs, then Oliver's wine country and the descent into the desert. You could drive it in an hour; done properly, it takes four.

From Kelowna (1h45)

Add West Kelowna's wineries, Peachland's waterfront, and Summerland's giant fruit stands to the front of the run. Splitting the drive with a Penticton lunch makes the day effortless.

Why finish in Osoyoos

The corridor crescendos south: warmest lake, driest hills, boldest reds. Basing at the southern end means you've always got the drive's best stretch, Oliver's wine roads, in easy day-trip range, with our free breakfast and pool courtyard bracketing each outing.

Northbound visitors: reverse everything, and let Osoyoos be the trip's warm-up act instead of its finale. Either direction, Highway 97 delivers.
