Hiking trails around Osoyoos: easy strolls to summit views
The hills that make Osoyoos beautiful from a lounge chair are even better underfoot. Desert hiking here means sagebrush, antelope-brush, sweeping lake views, and almost guaranteed sunshine, just carry more water than you think you need.
Easy: lakeside and boardwalk
The lakeside walkways around town and the sandspit at sẁiẁs (Haynes Point) Provincial Park offer flat, scenic walking. The Osoyoos Desert Centre's boardwalk loop adds interpretive signage through protected desert habitat.
Moderate: the Irrigation Canal & hillside trails
Old canal routes and hillside paths above town climb gently with ever-improving lake views, ideal for a golden-hour walk when the heat breaks.
Challenging: ridge climbs
Trails toward Mount Kobau and the ridges flanking the valley reward strong legs with panoramas over the entire desert basin, vineyards, lake, and border country in one frame.
Desert hiking rules
Start early in summer, carry water, watch for rattlesnakes (rare, shy, and best admired from distance), and stay on trails; this is fragile, endangered habitat.
Back at the hotel, the hot tub is the correct post-hike decision. Trust us on this one.
