Fishing Osoyoos Lake: seasons, species, licences

Osoyoos Lake fishes differently than most BC lakes, and that's the appeal. Its warm water supports smallmouth and largemouth bass alongside rainbow trout and seasonal kokanee, a mix you won't find in the colder lakes up-valley.

What's biting, and when

Bass wake up as the water warms in late spring and stay active all summer, working the weed lines and docks. Trout fish best in the cooler shoulders, spring and fall, when they move shallower. Ice fishing isn't a thing here; the lake rarely freezes hard, which tells you everything about the climate.

Licences

You'll need a valid BC freshwater fishing licence, easily bought online before you arrive. Fishing the US end of the lake requires Washington licensing, so most visitors simply stay Canadian-side.

Access

Shore anglers do well around points and drop-offs; small boats and kayaks open up the whole lake. Public launches are minutes from the hotel.

Anglers like our setup for practical reasons: free parking that fits a trailered boat, a fridge in every room for the day's supplies, early free breakfast before first light in summer, and a hot tub for the evening after.
