Anarchist Mountain Lookout: the best view in the South Okanagan

Ten minutes east of town, Highway 3 climbs the flank of Anarchist Mountain in long switchbacks, and near the top, a pullout delivers the money shot: the entire Osoyoos basin at your feet, lake glittering, vineyards quilting the benches, desert hills rolling to the border and beyond.

The view, decoded

From the lookout you can trace Osoyoos Lake crossing into Washington State, spot the sandspit of sẁiẁs (Haynes Point) reaching across the water, and follow Highway 97 threading north through wine country. Sunset turns the whole scene amber; sunrise paints it pink for the early risers.

Getting there

Drive east on Highway 3 toward Rock Creek; the signed viewpoint pullout arrives after the main switchbacks. It's an easy, paved stop, no hiking required, though the drive itself, one of BC's great road-trip climbs, is half the pleasure.

Late afternoon light flatters the valley best; bring a wide lens for the panorama and a zoom for the lake details. Winter visits are stunning too, when snow dusts the desert hills.
